A Ci curve

A/Ci curves (net CO2 assimilation rate, A, versus calculated substomatal CO2 concentration, Ci)

adventitious bud

a bud formed de novo mainly endogenously; usually develops on roots, less often on stems or leaves; its formation may be stimulated by plant injury

Agar

Research grade agar is used extensively in plant biology as it is supplemented with a nutrient and vitamin mixture that allows for seedling germination in petri dishes under sterile conditions (given that the seeds are sterilized as well). Murashige & Skoog (MS) nutrient mix and Gamborg’s B5 vitamin mix are generally used. A 1.0% agar/0.44% MS+vitamin dH20 solution is suitable for growth media between normal growth temps.

Allometry

A non-linear relationship between a given trait and the size of an organism. Organisms of large size have a different proportional allocation to that trait than organisms of small size.

anemometer

An anemometer is a device for measuring wind speed, often found at weather stations. Anemometers come in various forms for measuring velocity (e.g. cup, windmill, hot-wire or sonic anemometers) or measuring pressure (e.g. plate and tube anemometers).
