Spectrophotometers are devices used for measuring light intensity as a function of the wavelength of light (spectrophotometry being the quantifiable study of electromagnetic spectra). They are commonly used to measure the level of light absorption of a sample. A beam of light is passed through the sample and a detector receives those wavelengths which pass, allowing for the measurement of light absorbed by the sample.
